FMIT Discussion:
-
Irma has rapidly intensified into a Category 2 Hurricane in the Eastern Atlantic with winds of 100mph.
-
Additional strengthening is expected at a slower pace over the next several days despite drier conditions and slightly cooler waters.
-
Irma will head generally west to west-northwest at about 10 mph through Friday, then assume a more west-southwesterly track early next week.
-
Currently, it remains too soon to speculate on eventual potential Florida impact.
